چکیده

The Mediterranean basin has been a refugium for relict plant taxa and native laurophyllic forests. Latium coasts and, especially, the Antica Lavinium site, host forest communities, whose natural importance is enriched by their cultural value. Here, we aim at investigating ecological framework, historical values, management over time, of communities that have Laurus nobilis Celtis australis as priority habitats. To achieve this, performed vegetation surveys conducted statistical analyses (PCA, NMDS). Among 45 surveys, 25 were characterized two target species. PCA analysis highlighted how L. formations mixed with C. present some differences but are not sufficient to describe different coenosis. comparison among similar forests in central southern Italy confirmed wide coenological amplitude respect other an overall good preservation laurel formations, also formation australis. In area, historical, cultural, characteristics mutually contributed development human civilizations highlighting deep linkage.

Hydraulic architecture of leaf venation in Laurus nobilis L

Veins are the main irrigation system of the leaf lamina and an understanding of the hydraulic architecture of the vein networks is essential for understanding leaf function. However, determination of leaf hydraulic parameters is challenging, because for most leaves the vein system is reticulate, contains a hierarchy of different vein sizes, and consists of leaky conduits. We present a new appro...

A New Flavonoid C-Glycoside from Celtis australis L. and Celtis occidentalis L. Leaves and Potential Antioxidant and Cytotoxic Activities

A major development over the past two decades has been the realization that free radical induced lipid peroxidation and DNA damage are associated with major health problems, e.g. cancer and ageing. Plant-derived antioxidants are increasingly found beneficial in protecting against these diseases. Celtis australis L. and Celtis occidentalis L. are two plants that have a variety of uses in folk me...

In vitro and in vivo effects of Laurus nobilis L. leaf extracts.

The in vitro and in vivo antioxidant activities of different extracts of laurel leaves were studied. Free radical scavenging capacity (RSC) was evaluated measuring the scavenging activity on the DPPH, NO, O(2)(.-) and OH radicals. The effects on lipid peroxidation (LP) were also evaluated. Experimental results indicate that ethyl acetate extract of leaves has exhibited the largest RSC capacity ...
